Mentorship Matters
Become a Mentor
Every year, Pretty Purposed recruits mentors to support our girls through structured activities across our school based and community based programs. Mentors attend group mentoring sessions on a weekly basis from 4pm-6pm through our school based program, and twice a month from 6pm-8pm through our community based program. Mentors also have the opportunity to attend field trips centered around career development, culture, and arts education about 4-6 times throughout the year.
As a mentor, you will also attend training such as trauma informed care and learn strategies that will empower you. Pretty Purposed works closely with the Virginia Mentoring Partnership to ensure our mentors are equipped to feel comfortable in their new role.
A typical session within the Pretty Purposed curriculum consists of starting with a team-building activity or icebreaker, then a structured lesson provided by the site coordinator or an outside facilitator, followed by sharing and journaling. Mentors participate in the activities and provide support during the session.
If you are a good listener that is patient, caring, and passionate about working with young girls, please consider joining us. Once you fill out the application (linked below), you will be called to set up an interview. After your references and background check are completed, you will join us for orientation and training in September. Please read the mentor duties description.
